MatrixTV Setup Guide — Installing and Configuring IBO Player

MatrixTV is delivered through IBO Player, a lightweight playlist application available for Android, Amazon Fire TV, Windows, macOS, Linux and the app stores built into Samsung and LG televisions. This guide walks through installation on each platform, then covers playlist registration, the Live TV interface and the settings worth changing on day one.

Before you begin

What You Need in Front of You

  • An active MatrixTV subscription — order the $8.99 intro month if you have not yet.
  • The credentials email we send at activation (portal address, username and password, or an M3U line).
  • The device you intend to watch on, connected to your home broadband.
  • Five to twelve minutes, depending on the platform.

A note on how IBO Player works: it uses remote playlist activation. Rather than typing credentials on a TV remote, you register them once on the IBO Player web portal against your device's MAC address, and the app pulls them down automatically. It feels unusual the first time and is far quicker ever after.

Step one

Installing IBO Player on Your Device

Pick the platform you own. The playlist registration afterwards is identical on all of them.

Smartphone icon

Android phones & tablets

  1. Open the browser and download the IBO Player installation file from the official IBO developer site.
  2. Android warns that the file came from outside the Play Store — choose Download anyway.
  3. Open the downloaded file and tap Install.
  4. Launch the app. An introductory screen explains the activation flow; tap OK.
  5. The app loads with your device details on screen, ready for playlist registration.

Amazon Fire TV Stick

  1. From the Fire TV home screen, open the magnifier and search for Downloader.
  2. Install Downloader — it lets you side-load apps that are not in the Amazon store.
  3. Open Downloader and allow media access when prompted.
  4. In the address field, enter the official Downloader code for the IBO Player Android build: 511693, then press Go.
  5. Wait for the download to finish, choose Install, then Open.
  6. Leave the app on the device-info screen for the next step.
Desktop computer icon

Windows 10 and 11

  1. Download the 64-bit Windows installer from the IBO Player download page.
  2. Windows SmartScreen may interrupt — click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Click Next, tick the desktop shortcut if you want one, then Next again.
  4. Click Install, then Finish to launch the player.

Windows 10 or newer is required; there is no 32-bit build.

Gear icon

macOS (MacBook & iMac)

  1. Download the macOS build from the IBO Player download section.
  2. Open the disk image and drag the icon into your Applications folder.
  3. Launch it from Launchpad. macOS blocks it the first time because it came from outside the App Store.
  4. Go to System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to the security notice and click Open Anyway, then confirm.
  5. The permission is remembered — future launches open straight away.
House icon

LG & Samsung smart TVs

  1. Open the LG Content Store or the Samsung Apps store on your television.
  2. Select the search icon and type IBO Player.
  3. Choose the listing named exactly “IBO Player” — ignore similarly named copies.
  4. Select Install, then Launch.
  5. A welcome message appears on first run, showing the details you need for registration.

Toshiba, Hisense and other WebOS or Tizen sets follow the same path.

Linux & set-top boxes

  1. Debian and Ubuntu builds are published on the IBO Player site — install the package and launch it from your applications menu.
  2. MAG, Enigma2 and generic STB hardware can be provisioned directly by our support desk using your box's MAC address.
  3. Send us the MAC from the device menu and we will push the portal configuration for you.
Step two

Find Your MAC Address and Device Key

IBO Player identifies your hardware with two values that it generates on first launch. You will need both to register a playlist.

  1. Open IBO Player on your streaming device.
  2. From the main dashboard, select the profile icon.
  3. Look at the Device Info panel in the top-left corner.
  4. Write down the MAC Address and the Device Key exactly as displayed, including punctuation.

Tip: photograph the screen with your phone. Transcribing a MAC address from across the living room is how most setup tickets begin.

Step three

Register Your MatrixTV Playlist

Playlists are added on the IBO Player web portal from any phone or computer — not on the television itself.

Open the IBO Player official website in a browser and choose Manage Playlist from the top menu. Enter the MAC Address and Device Key you noted in step two, and sign in. You are now looking at the playlist manager for that specific device. There are two ways to add MatrixTV, depending on which credentials we issued you.

Option A — Add Playlist (M3U line)

Use this if your activation email contains a single long streaming URL.

  1. Click Add Playlist.
  2. Playlist name: anything you like — “MatrixTV” keeps it obvious.
  3. Playlist URL: paste the M3U line from your activation email exactly, with no trailing spaces.
  4. XMLTV EPG URL: leave empty. IBO Player reads the program guide from the playlist automatically. Only fill this in if you deliberately want a third-party guide source.
  5. Protect this playlist: tick it to set a PIN if children share the television.
  6. Click Save.

Option B — Add XC Playlist (portal login)

Use this if your email contains a host address, a username and a password.

  1. Click Add XC Playlist.
  2. Host: the server address from your activation email.
  3. Username and Password: exactly as issued — they are case-sensitive.
  4. Give the playlist a name and click Save.

Nothing showing up? Close IBO Player completely on the TV and reopen it. The app fetches the playlist at launch, so a restart is required after any change on the portal. If it is still empty, message our support desk with your MAC address and we will check the registration from our side.

Step four

Living With the Live TV Section

Reopen the app and the dashboard now shows Live TV, Movies and Series. Live TV opens on a three-column layout: categories on the left, channels in the middle, the current stream on the right. A few minutes of housekeeping here pays for itself over the following year.

Tidy the category list

A 22,000-channel playlist contains a great many groups you will never open. In Settings › Manage Categories you can hide entire country or genre groups. Hiding the ones you do not need turns an intimidating wall into a list you can navigate with a remote.

Build a favourites list

Highlight any channel and hold the OK button to add it to Favourites. Most households end up with fifteen to thirty pinned channels and rarely leave that group. Favourites sit at the top of the category column for one-click access.

Search instead of scrolling

The magnifier at the top of the channel column searches across the entire playlist. Typing three or four letters is invariably faster than paging through a category, especially for sports feeds with long names.

Movies and series

The on-demand sections mirror the same layout, with posters, synopses and rating data pulled in automatically. Series are grouped by season and episode. Playback resumes where you stopped, per title.

Honest Notes About IBO Player

Check mark icon

Runs almost everywhere

Android, Fire TV, Windows, macOS, Debian and Ubuntu, plus the Samsung and LG app stores. Very few playlist apps reach non-Android televisions at all, which is precisely why we standardised on it.

Exclamation mark icon

No recording, no multi-screen

The app cannot record streams and does not offer a split-screen mode. Since MatrixTV authorises one device per subscription, the second limitation rarely bites in practice.

Payment card icon

The app itself is licensed

IBO Player gives you a five-day evaluation window, after which its developers charge a small one-off licence fee — roughly five euros a year or ten euros for life. That fee goes to the app author, not to MatrixTV, and is entirely separate from your subscription.

Installation FAQ

The developers publish builds for all Android devices, macOS computers, Windows 10 and above, and Debian or Ubuntu Linux. It is also listed in the Samsung and LG smart TV stores. Amazon Fire TV hardware runs the Android build via side-loading.

No. IBO Player has no recording function. The seven-day catch-up window on supported channels covers most of the same need — scroll back on the guide and press play.

IBO Player uses remote playlist activation by design. It means you never type a long password with a directional remote, and you can change or renew your playlist from your phone without touching the television.

Switch the decoder under Settings › Live TV Player and try again — individual feeds occasionally prefer a different engine. If it persists, send us the channel name and we will check the source or route you to a backup feed.

Yes. Install IBO Player on the new hardware, take its MAC address and Device Key, and register the same MatrixTV playlist against it. Remember that only one device may stream at a time under your plan.
